The Outsiders*

 

When I stepped out into the sunlight from the darkness of the movie house, I had only two things on my mind: Paul Newman and a ride home. I was wishing I looked Paul Newman -he looks tough and I don’t-  but I guess my own looks aren’t so bed. I have light-brown, almost-red hair and greenish-gray eyes. I wish they were more gray, because I hate most guys that have green eyes, but I have to be content with what I have. My hair is longer than a lot of boys wear theirs, squared off in back and long at the front and sides,but I am a greaser and most of my neighborhood rarely bothers to get a haircut. Besides, I look better with long hair. 

I had a long walk home and no company, but I usually löone it anyway, for no reason except that I like to watch  movies undisturbed so I can get into them and live them  with the actors. When I see a movie with someone it’s kind of uncomfortable, like having someone read your book over your shoulder. I’m different that way. I mean, my second oldest brother, Soda, who is sixteen-going-on-seventeen, never cracks a book at all, and my oldest brother Darrel, who we call Darry, works too long and hard to be interested  in a story or drawing a picture, so I’m not like them. And nobody in our gang digs movies and books the way I do. For a while there, I thought I was the only person in the world that did.. So Ioned it.

Soda tries to understand, at least, which is more than Darry does. But then, Soda is different from anybody; he understands everything, almost. Like he’s never hollering et me all the time the way Darry is, or treating me as if I was six instead of fourteen. I love Soda more than I’v ever loved anyone, even Mom and Dad.  He’s always happy-go-lucky and grinning , while Darry’s hard and firm and rarely grins at all. But then, Darry’s gone  through a lot in his twenty years, grown up too fastç Sodapop’ll never grow up out on of these days.

Anyway, I went on walking home, thinking about the movie, and then suddenly wishing I had some company. Greasers can’t walk alone too much or they’ll get5 jumpe, or someone  will come by and scream “Greaser!” at them, which doesn’t  make you feel too hot, if you know what I mean. … ..

*Susan Eloise Hinton (born July 22, 1948) is an American writer best known for her young-adult novels (YA) set in Oklahoma, especially The Outsiders (1967), which she wrote during high school.[a] Hinton is credited with introducing the YA genre.[4][5] She graduated from the University of Tulsa.[6]

In 1988, she received the inaugural Margaret Edwards Award from the American Library Association for her cumulative contribution in writing for teens.[7][b]

Career

While still in her teens, Hinton became a household name[a] as the author of The Outsiders, her first and most popular novel, set in Oklahoma in the 1960s. She began writing it in 1965.[8] The book was inspired by two rival gangs at her school, Will Rogers High School,[9] the Greasers and the Socs,[3] and her desire to empathize with the Greasers by writing from their point of view.[c] She wrote the novel when she was 16 and it was published in 1967.[11] Since then, the book has sold more than 14 million copies.[9] In 2017, Viking Press stated the book sells over 500,000 copies a year.[3]

Hinton's publisher suggested she use her initials instead of her feminine given names so that the first[12] male book reviewers would not dismiss the novel because its author was female.[8][d] After the success of The Outsiders, Hinton chose to continue writing and publishing using her initials because she did not want to lose what she had made famous[e] and to allow her to keep her private and public lives separate.[f]

*80'li yılların genç ve iyi aktörlerinden biri. outsiders filmindeki ponyboy rolü ile gönüllerde taht kurmuş, ralph macchio ile çok iyi bir ikili olmuşlardı. daha sonra rutger hauer ile the hitcherda oynamış, asla ve asla otostop çekmeme yönünde bir yargı edinmemize yolaçmıştır.

*Dışarıdakiler,olağanüstü akıcılığı bir yana bize toplumsal gerçekleri bir tokat gibi vuruyor .Elbette ahım şahım mükemmel ,değişik bir konusu yok ama yazar hepimizin gördüğü ama aldırış etmediği bir konuyu hafızamıza kazıyor.Kitabın sonlarına doğru bayağı peçete tüketsemde (duygusal bir dönemde olduğumdan olabilir ).

Kitabı benim kadar mükemmel bulamayabilirsiniz belki ama ana fikri için okunmaya değer .

*Kitabı okurken ağladım. Çok ağladım hem de... Kitapta dostluğu gördüm, kardeşliği gördüm, fedakarlığı gördüm. İlk sayfalarda çeteyi ve diğer karekterleri tanıtıyordu, biraz durgundu ama ilerleyip konuya girdiğinizde çeteden biri olarak olayları yaşıyorsunuz. Kısa bir kitap olmasına rağmen herkesin şans verip okuması gereken kitaplardan. Artık Ponyboy ve diğerlerinin yeri bende ayrı.

*kitap ponyboy curtis adlı başkahramanımız olan tatlı bi' gencin ağzından yazılmıştır ve 60'ların sonlarına doğru olan dönemdeki gençlik çetelerini vesaireyi anlatır.

şöyle ki tulsa kasabasında iki grup vardır; zengin soc(social)lar ve fakir, karizma takılan greaserlar, ki bu gruba ponyboy, abileri ve abilerinin arkadaş ortamı da dahildir. iki abisiyle yaşayan kahramanımızın adını  sıkılan babası vermiştir, zaten abilerinden birinin adı da gazoz markası olan sodapop'tur (diğeri de darry). ana tema bu çetelerin bitmek tükenmek bilmeyen kavgaları ve yobazlık derecesine varmış nefretleridir. malesef ki bu nefret ponyboy ve johnny karakterlerinin hayatında pek de hoş

olmayan etkiler bırakıyor. bu olumsuz etkiler de kitabın ilk çeyreğinden sonra başlayıp kitabın sonuna kadar devam ediyor. kitapta güzel quotelar vardır, şahsımca west side story ve gone with the wind ile benzerlikleri bulunur.

*Kıyıda köşede kalmış bir kasabada birarada yaşayan bir grup genç, gerek sosyal gerekse ekonomik anlamda ikiye bölünmüştür. Daha alt sınıfa ait olan Greasers, ekonomik anlamda pek de parlak ailelerde yetişmeyen ve gelecek adına beklentileri olmayan gençlerden oluşurken; Socs adlı grup zengin ailelere sahip olan hayata dair pek de kaygısı olmayan gençlerden oluşmaktadır. İki çete arasında süregelen rekabet Greasers'lı iki gencin, Socs'lu iki genç kız ile flört etmesiyle fişeklenir. Ponnyboy ve Johnny'nin bu hareketi karşılıksız kalmaz ve aralarında bir kavga çıkar. Kavga sonucunda Socs'un ileri gelen isimlerinden Bob Sheldon öldürülür....
